Last week, was our paper anniversary here at QUIK. Last year, on the 11th of June 2021, the world had just started to venture out of the pandemic. Meanwhile, our bold and ambitious team put our business into the world. And, what a year this has been. And with all the games we launched, events we attended, and deals we struck this year, we’ve got plenty to celebrate during this first anniversary of going live.
A memorable milestone
As if this anniversary wasn’t memorable enough for us, we wanted this milestone to be even more unforgettable.
We wanted to do something for the greater good, especially with World Environment Day (5th of June) and World Oceans Day (8th of June) just falling a few days apart from this special day.
We figured that we build and travel to so many different worlds in our Unique Live Games—from faraway islands and wild jungles to the hyperspeed year of 2095 in New York State and much more. But what use would that be if the future of the world we live in isn’t as bright as we’d hoped it would be? With global warming and climate change posing an existential threat and the world as we know it, sustainability is no longer a virtue but our collective duty—more so as a business.
So, to commemorate this first year, we contributed to a number of different initiatives—all aimed at making our world a better place to live in. Through Team Trees, a collaborative fundraiser, we decided to plant 24 trees for every QUIK team employee. With our office being based in Malta, we also decided to plant another tree on this island through the Tree 4 U campaign. Similarly, on behalf of our employees, we donated to Team Seas, a fundraiser aimed to help clean the oceans. Through our contribution, Team Seas will remove 24 pounds of trash from the sea, as part of their cleanup project—the most-impactful of its kind.
But that’s not it…
For us at QUIK, being sustainable and environmentally conscious is an all-year commitment—rather than just a one-off appointment. One of the first things we did when we went live was to go paperless. We decided that we work just as well in the digital era, if not better, by switching all our operations to virtual ones. By using eDocs for our day-to-day and operating on the cloud, we know we’re making a small step in the right direction—one that makes us more efficient and safeguards the environment as well.
One other measure we decided to maintain, even now that we’re seemingly coming out the other end of the pandemic, is working from home. The QUIK team does not need to worry about long commutes, long bus trips, and endless traffic jams before and after their work hours. This makes our employees happier, but it also makes the Earth a little happier, as less commuting means we’re helping our employees minimise their individual carbon footprint.
One other gift we’re giving the environment is switching to eGifts. Over these past 6 months, QUIK employees received a gift straight in their inbox for every birthday and special occasion. This avoids receiving something you might already own, but it also means fewer gifts travelling from one side of the world, meaning less carbon footprint too. Talk about a win-win.
With this being our first year in operation, we know we still have a long way to go before we can celebrate being as sustainable as possible as a business. Still, every journey starts with one step in the right direction, right?
This is just the start
We’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come in just a year. What started out as a dream for innovation has become a reality, with our Unique Live Games reaching the world’s four corners and a team of extraordinary individuals working from all over the globe towards one single mission. We know this is just the first lap of our exciting journey—and we can’t wait to see where we’ll be in a few weeks, let alone a year from now.
Stay tuned for more QUIK updates—our future is looking (ecologically) bright!
